Airlines face disruptions as fuel costs soar

Airlines across Nigeria are grappling with operational disruptions due to soaring fuel costs, which have led to flight cancellations and delays. Passengers facing these issues in Abuja had to spend the night at the airport, leading to protests. The airline Air Peace cited a lack of Jet A1 aviation fuel as the cause of the delays, which also affected other airlines operating from the Abuja airport.

Despite the airline's apology and efforts to inform passengers, some sources attribute the situation to airlines refusing to clear outstanding debts, leading to a shortage of the product. The Managing Director of Aero Contractors, Ado Sanusi, confirmed the availability of Jet A1 but acknowledged the high cost as a major concern for aircraft operators.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, reported that fuel-related issues have grounded the airline's aircraft, but he has not provided further details on the cause of the shortage.
