AI gets new badge: Trump calls it ‘Super Intelligence’

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump hosted a high-level luncheon at the White House with prominent technology industry executives, including SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. During the gathering, Trump officially announced that the US government would rename Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Super Intelligence (SI). The President emphasized that AI is no longer suitable for its description, as it is "super" and possesses immense potential.

Addressing the media, Trump mentioned that a formal executive document would be signed to officially reclassify AI as SI. He pointed out that the reclassification aims to make the technology safer and more beneficial for the world. Trump highlighted the importance of a collaborative approach between the administration and the technology leaders, stating their shared goal of ensuring a safe and prosperous future for the country and the world.

The President also discussed the infrastructure needed to support advanced computing and the importance of tech companies working with and supporting local communities hosting data centers. Trump noted that these companies would contribute financially and otherwise, with a focus on improving local schools, teachers, and overall community welfare.

When addressing safety, governance, and potential misuse of next-generation systems, Trump stated that these complex models are likely to be used for the good. He added, "When they're not, we're going to be able to nab them." The meeting also saw industry leaders discuss the framework of the White House Accord, which focuses on developing SI safely and responsibly.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the accord's goal of building public trust, stating that the technology should work as intended. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stressed the necessity of coordinated development to ensure safety and win the race responsibly. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton highlighted the national security implications of the discussions, emphasizing AI's critical role in maintaining the nation's defense and intelligence capabilities.
