OpenAI, a leading artificial intelligence company, has unveiled an AI-powered virtual assistant named "Dot" at its annual developer event, DevDay 2026, held in San Francisco. This innovative AI agent, capable of autonomously completing tasks without explicit instructions from the user, is set to bolster OpenAI's enterprise market strategy. The unveiling of Dot took place on September 29th at the event.

Dot, akin to a real-life personal assistant, learns a user's goals and preferences over time. After gaining this understanding, it can perform various tasks independently, without requiring direct human intervention. Unlike existing AI models that can only execute complex tasks from start to finish upon receiving specific commands, Dot takes on tasks up to a certain point and proactively continues working on behalf of the user.

For instance, if a user's product requires updates, Dot can modify the product details and draft revised versions, providing them for the user's review, all without explicit requests.

OpenAI believes Dot's true potential is realized when it completes tasks as if done by the user, even before they explicitly request it. CEO Sam Altman highlighted during the event that Dot represents "the truest form of artificial intelligence we have ever imagined." Constructed on OpenAI's top AI model, GPT-6, Dot operates independently, even after a user closes ChatGPT.

It connects with over 4000 business applications, including Microsoft Teams and Slack, allowing users to interact with Dot via chat or voice commands on desktop, web, and mobile platforms. Users can control Dot's access privileges and actions.

However, Dot's rollout has not been without controversy. During a demonstration, there were instances of errors, and the introduction of a higher-priced plan coincided with a reduction in usage limits for existing plans, leading some users to express disappointment. In response to requests during the demonstration, such as providing previously completed work, Dot replied, "Checking," leaving users uncertain about its capabilities.

OpenAI subsequently introduced a premium plan, "Pro 500," priced at $500 per month, which surpasses the previous most expensive plan, "Pro 200," and is now available to users who opted for the more expensive plans.
