Address security concerns and let concert proceed – former Sabah CM

Former Sabah chief minister Salleh Said Keruak has called for addressing security concerns surrounding the planned concert by American gospel singer Israel Houghton, so the event can proceed as scheduled. Sabah police commissioner Jauteh Dikun had previously advised postponing the concert due to worries about Houghton's support for Israel. Dikun's concerns have prompted at least two police reports, while promoters had begun marketing the concert before submitting the necessary paperwork.

In a statement, Salleh acknowledged the validity of Dikun's worries but emphasized the importance of considering other factors, such as Houghton's popularity within Sabah's Christian community. The former chief minister stressed that Sabah has a history of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among its diverse communities, and this tradition should be maintained.

Salleh argued that if security concerns can be effectively managed, the primary focus should be on ensuring the concert is held peacefully and responsibly, rather than canceling it entirely. The gospel singer, who has won eight Grammy Awards, is set to perform in Sabah later this month. However, there are discrepancies in the dates for the event, with one social media post claiming the concert will take place on October 22, while a ticketing platform lists the date as October 25.
