A pilot brawl, then a rapid descent: passengers recount chaos on flydubai flight

On Wednesday, flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv experienced a sudden and dramatic plunge, plunging from over 30,000 feet. Passenger Almog Italie recounted the terrifying ordeal, describing the plane appearing to pass through massive turbulence before realizing that a life-or-death struggle had unfolded in the cockpit.

Passengers rushed to the front of the cabin, as commotion erupted ahead of the cockpit where Israeli officials stated the co-pilot had attempted to murder the captain in an effort to crash the plane. The plane dropped erratically for 20 to 30 seconds before stabilizing and dropping again, prompting passengers from the front of the plane to take control of the cockpit and subdue the attacker.

The wounded captain was found on the floor, bleeding, and had used his last moments of energy to open the cockpit door. With the help of reserve crew members, the plane was safely landed at Tabuk Airport. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz praised the passengers' bravery for thwarting the attack. While the motive behind the attempt remains unknown, it was clear that the passengers' actions prevented a tragic outcome, and they were met with a warm welcome upon landing.
