2027: NRM’s Okereke targets hunger, insecurity

Dr Esther Okereke, the presidential candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has pledged to end Nigeria's struggles with insecurity, hunger, unemployment and despair if elected in the 2027 general elections. The 2027 presidential election features two female candidates vying for the top spot. Okereke, inaugurating her party's Presidential Campaign Council, emphasized the inauguration signified the start of a "rescue team" for the nation, not just a campaign structure.

She noted that Nigeria's politics had historically focused on sharing power, but her party's politics would prioritize sharing prosperity. Her campaign would focus on structure, evidence and peace, deviating from the "noise" of past campaigns. She highlighted the NRM's desire to tackle Nigeria's challenges, including insecurity, hunger, unemployment and hopelessness.

The party's principles include legality, constitutionalism, accountability, transparency, unity, peaceful participation and the rule of law. Okereke outlined the campaign council's structure, spanning from the national level to polling units, with 30 national directorates, six geopolitical zones, 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, local government areas and wards.

The council, chaired by Chinedu Obi with Okereke as co-chairman, aims to operate under a clear chain of command, with strict guidelines against unauthorized statements and parallel commands.
