Who's in, who's out? Projecting Guardians ALDS playoff roster

The Cleveland Guardians have secured the No. 2 seed in the American League (AL) playoffs, ensuring they will start the AL Division Series (ALDS) with a bye. They will await the winner of the Houston Astros versus Chicago White Sox matchup, which will take place in a best-of-5 series, with Game 1 set for October 3 at Progressive Field. Until then, the Guardians must finalize their 26-man playoff roster.

For the catcher position, the Guardians are considering Austin Hedges and Patrick Bailey. As for the infield, the team plans to include Jose Ramirez, Brayan Rocchio, Travis Bazzana, Nate Lowe, David Fry, Angel Genao, and Daniel Schneemann. Genao is a versatile player, capable of playing second, third, or shortstop. Fry can serve as an emergency catcher, and he and Schneemann may also play the outfield, offering multiple configurations for Stephen Vogt.

In the outfield, the Guardians are likely to select Jo Adell, Steven Kwan, Chase DeLauter, Angel Martinez, and Petey Halpin. Halpin may be on the roster but might be considered a borderline player. The starting pitchers for the ALDS are expected to be Parker Messick and Gavin Williams, with Tanner Bibee potentially taking the mound for Game 3, given his performance in high-pressure situations.

Foster Griffin, Joey Cantillo, and Shawn Armstrong are also options for the pitching staff, with Bibee preferred for Game 3.
