Warranty claim denied after Rs 13,000 shoes ‘damaged’ in 2 months, man wins Rs 21,000

In a recent ruling, a Telangana consumer commission has ordered a shoe company to pay Rs 21,000 to a man after their warranty claim for damaged shoes was rejected. The 45-year-old customer had purchased a pair of shoes for Rs 12,999 in October 2025, and within two months, they developed visible peeling and damage. Despite careful and appropriate use, the company denied the warranty claim, stating it was due to "regular wear and tear."

The commission found the company's decision deficient and accused them of unfair trade practice, as they did not provide a technical inspection report to justify their claim. The commission directed the company to refund Rs 12,999 to the man, along with Rs 5,000 for mental anguish and inconvenience caused by the company's handling of the warranty claim. Additionally, the company must pay Rs 3,000 in litigation costs within 45 days.
