Vivaldi Operation Disrupted Russia’s Plans In Donetsk Region — Military Analyst

Ukrainian military operation Vivaldi, being conducted in the Lyman-Sloviansk direction, may have considerable strategic value and potentially alter the course of the conflict, as suggested by military analyst Denys Popovych in an interview on the FREEДОМ television channel. Speaking with UATV English, Popovych emphasized the Russian military's strong emphasis on claiming the complete control of the Donetsk region.

Popovych deemed Operation Vivaldi as a strategic one, with the potential to influence the trajectory of the war. According to the analyst, Russian forces had intended a comprehensive encirclement of Ukrainian troops defending Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka and Kostiantynivka. In this scenario, the northern segment of the encirclement was to originate from Lyman and advance towards Barvinkove, while the southern component was set to move from the Dobropillia region, an area of ongoing intense combat.

A critical aspect of the Russian strategy was the capture of Lyman, which would serve as a base for further advances towards Sviatohirsk. Popovych noted that Ukrainian forces have potentially disrupted this encirclement plan, thereby undermining Russia's larger ambitions in the region. He elaborated that the focus is now shifting towards obstructing the "Lyman pincers," which signifies the disruption of the enemy's strategic plans aimed at encircling the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk urban area and, as a result, their objective of capturing the Donetsk region and declaring victory in the war.

Earlier, Ukraine's Third Army Corps revealed the utilization of modified Soviet BTR-60 armored personnel carriers, converted into robotic kamikaze systems, during Operation Vivaldi to assist in breaching Russian defenses.
