Veeramani POCSO case: DMK moves Madras High Court to ask SIT to summon Tamil Nadu CM Vijay, Ministers Aadhav Arjuna and Nirmal Kumar

Nairobi, Kenya, September 29 — The High Court has handed down convictions against four men for the 2015 murder of former Kabete MP George Muchai and his three aides, concluding a trial that paralleled a separate robbery case where the suspects were previously sentenced to death in April. The four convicted — Erick Munyera, Raphael Kimani, Mustafa Kimani, and Stephen Asitiva — are found guilty of the four murder charges stemming from the February 2015 killings.

Muchai, serving as the Kabete MP at the time, was among four victims slain along Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi: two police officers, Constables Samuel Kimathi and Samuel Lekakeny, and Muchai's driver, Stephen Ituu Wambugu. The High Court murder case diverges from the robbery-with-violence proceedings concluded earlier this year by Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, who sentenced the group to death for robbery with violence and related offenses linked to a series of robberies on February 6-7, 2015, resulting in property losses valued at approximately Sh1.1 million.

The firearms and ammunition seized during those incidents were forfeited to the State, pending the outcome of the separate High Court murder trial. Initially, seven individuals faced charges in the murder trial, with Justice Kanyi Kimondo in September 2025 ruling that the prosecution had sufficient evidence to charge four — Munyera, Kimani, Mustafa Kimani, and Asitiva — with murder.

The remaining three were acquitted of the murder charges due to insufficient evidence. The prosecution presented 37 witnesses during the proceedings, while the defense contested the evidence and denied the accusations. The High Court ultimately found the prosecution's case met the necessary standards, leading to the convictions of the four accused. The sentencing phase of the case is anticipated to follow.
