Urus risiko keselamatan supaya konsert Houghton berlangsung aman, kata Salleh

Former Sabah Chief Minister Salleh Said Keruak said concerns over safety surrounding the Israel Houghton gospel concert in Kota Kinabalu need to be addressed with appropriate measures to ensure the event can take place safely. The concerns were raised by Sabah Police Director Jauteh Dikun, who said the matter should be taken seriously as the authorities are in the best position to assess the risk to public safety and plan necessary precautions.

Salleh believes concerns over safety should not automatically rule out the concert. The main issue is whether these concerns can be managed through appropriate safety measures and control. He stated that all relevant factors need to be considered before making a final decision on the concert. Houghton has a Christian following, including in Sabah.

Sabah has been known for its religious tolerance and harmonious coexistence among its diverse communities. This tradition should be maintained. If safety concerns can be addressed appropriately, the focus should be on ensuring the concert is conducted responsibly and safely, rather than preventing it from taking place. Police Sabah said their officers would advise the state government to delay the Houghton concert for now if a formal request for the event is submitted.

Jauteh added that the decision takes into account public reaction and community sensitivity, in addition to two police reports received regarding the event. The government has not yet received the formal request from the organizers despite the concert being advertised with details on date, location and ticket prices. The concert is scheduled to take place from October 22-25 in various locations in Kota Kinabalu as part of Houghton's international tour.
