Ulhasnagar Civic Body To Appoint Seven Nominated Corporators On October 1 After Months-Long Legal Battle

Ulhasnagar's Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) administration is set to appoint seven nominated corporators on October 1 following a lengthy legal battle. The civic body has scheduled a Special General Body meeting to finalize the process. The seven positions have drawn 42 applications, highlighting the fierce competition among political aspirants.

During scrutiny, 35 applications were found deficient and required additional supporting documents. The final list of eligible candidates will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the selection process. Four of the seven positions will be allocated to the BJP, while three will go to the Shiv Sena shinde faction, based on the UMC's current strength.

The BJP has finalized four candidates, while the Shiv Sena has received a larger number of applications for its three slots. The final selection will depend on the party leadership's decision after the civic administration's scrutiny. The appointment of nominated corporators has been embroiled in legal proceedings since its announcement, with the Bombay High Court quashing the postponement of the Special General Body meeting and directing the civic body to restart the process.

The Supreme Court later granted the civic body a limited extension to complete the appointment process while allowing disqualification petitions to continue. The process was initially expected to be completed by September 28, but the administration has now set the Special General Body meeting for October 1. Attention is now focused on the scrutiny of documents and the final list of eligible candidates, which will determine the seven nominees joining the UMC House and concluding a protracted process marked by political competition and legal proceedings.
