UAE’s ‘Operation Confrontation Ghost’ expands global fight against AI-driven and cross-border fraud

The UAE's "Operation Confrontation Ghost" has expanded its global efforts to combat AI-driven and cross-border fraud, according to the Ministry of Interior. This operation, which now involves 30 countries, two international organizations, and 13 partners from the private and technology sectors, aims to target emerging fraud schemes such as AI-enabled fraud, online sextortion, and financial fraud conducted through digital platforms.

Lt. Colonel Saeed Khalfan Al Kaabi, Director of the International Cooperation Department, explained that the operation's success lies in the real-time intelligence sharing, monitoring of emerging trends, and use of specialized expertise. This approach enables the operation to identify and address threats swiftly and accurately, all while adhering to data protection standards.

Al Kaabi highlighted the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and private sector partners in monitoring, detecting, and preventing fraud. He noted that the cross-border nature of these crimes necessitates effective and rapid coordination among relevant entities.

The UAE's commitment to combating fraud is further demonstrated through its membership in the Global Anti-Scam Alliance, which unites over 90 countries and a network of partners from technology and financial services sectors. This alliance promotes the exchange of expertise and identifies the latest fraud methods and technologies used to confront them.

Al Kaabi emphasized the UAE's dedication to strengthening cooperation and partnerships with relevant entities and international partners. By doing so, the UAE aims to improve response times and enhance coordination in efforts to combat fraud and cross-border financial crimes.
