UAE rejects Iran's occupation of three islands, urges talks or ICJ ruling at UN General Assembly

UAE Minister of State Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar emphasized at the UN General Assembly that the region and the world are experiencing rapid transformation with increasing challenges and divisions. He affirmed the UAE's principled approach based on de-escalation, diplomacy, and peaceful dispute resolution, rejecting Iran's unlawful occupation of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa islands.

The UAE has consistently called for peaceful settlement through negotiations or the International Court of Justice, stressing the importance of freedom of navigation and the right of transit passage in accordance with international law. The UAE has supported peace efforts in various conflict zones, including Yemen, Libya, the Sahel, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Haiti, and the Moroccan Sahara.

They have also advocated for peace in Ukraine, supported Sudan's transition to stability, and played a role in ending the Gaza conflict. Al Marar called for reforming regional and international multilateral institutions, particularly the UN, to better fulfill their responsibilities.
