Trump to visit Peterbilt truck plant in Texas to tout manufacturing agenda

On Thursday, President Donald Trump will visit Peterbilt Motors' manufacturing facility in Denton, Texas, to promote his economic agenda and its impact on U.S. manufacturing. The White House hopes the appearance will highlight the administration's trade and manufacturing policies. The president is expected to tour the truck plant and speak with workers, underscoring the benefits of tariffs and other trade measures for boosting domestic production.

White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales stated that the administration's policies have generated over 1 million private-sector jobs and trillions of dollars in announced investments.

The visit comes at a critical juncture for the North American truck manufacturing industry, which is dealing with tariffs, evolving emissions regulations, and a freight market that has curtailed demand for new equipment. The administration argues that tariffs, tax policies, and deregulation have contributed to a manufacturing resurgence.

Peterbilt parent PACCAR has seen an increase in U.S. truck production and employment since the tariffs went into effect, reportedly creating more than 1,000 additional jobs at the Denton plant and over 2,000 across the company's U.S. operations.

The administration will also highlight the 25% tariff imposed in November 2025 on imported medium- and heavy-duty trucks, as well as tariffs on non-USMCA-compliant truck parts. While these policies may reshape where commercial vehicles and components are built, they could also affect equipment costs and sourcing decisions for manufacturers and fleets.
