Trump denies offering Iran sanctions relief for nuclear concessions

US President Donald Trump firmly denied on Monday that he had offered Iran sanctions relief and the release of frozen funds in exchange for nuclear concessions. In a statement on Truth Social, Trump asserted, "This is untrue. I offered them NOTHING." This denial came in response to an Axios report citing unnamed US officials who claimed Trump was willing to provide Iran with sanctions relief and release frozen Iranian funds in return for concrete steps on the nuclear program.

However, the report did not name the officials. Concurrently, CNN reported that Trump was prepared to offer Iran sanctions relief and release frozen funds as part of a final deal, contingent upon Iran showing "concrete progress" in the nuclear issue. Trump's stance on Iran has been marked by fluctuating goals and timelines since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28.

The ensuing strikes by Iran and its retaliation against Israel and US bases have resulted in thousands of casualties and the displacement of millions. Trump has often emphasized reducing Iran's nuclear capabilities as a key objective of the war. Iran, which does not possess nuclear weapons, denies pursuing them. The US, being a nuclear-armed nation, maintains that Iran has the right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes under the terms of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
