Tinubu asks Reps to pass NDDC 2026 statutory budget

President Bola Tinubu has requested the House of Representatives to review and approve the Niger Delta Development Commission's (NDDC) 2026 statutory budget, highlighting youth empowerment, electricity, education, healthcare, security, and agriculture as key areas of focus. In a letter dated August 20, 2026, addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, Tinubu conveyed the proposed budget for legislative consideration.

The proposed budget, prepared by the Minister of Niger Delta Development in compliance with Section 121 of the Constitution, aims to address longstanding development challenges in the region while enhancing economic opportunities for its residents. The NDDC's priorities encompass infrastructure development, human capital development, and youth empowerment, aligning with the Federal Government's fiscal and development policies, including the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The proposal takes into account the commission's projected revenue and expenditure, as well as key assumptions underpinning the Federal Government's 2026 Appropriation Act. Tinubu urged the House to provide prompt consideration to the proposal, emphasizing the importance of addressing youth unemployment, skills development, and access to sustainable livelihoods in the Niger Delta region.
