The Hong Kong government is considering using the Hong Kong Stadium as a temporary home for substantial tennis tournaments while Victoria Park’s center court undergoes redevelopment, according to Sports Minister Rosanna Law Shuk-pui. Law expressed her confidence that the stadium could accommodate major tennis events during specific periods each year, suggesting the installation of temporary courts and necessary facilities.

The plan remains under consideration, but Law emphasized that the stadium's large seating capacity could attract higher-level tournaments even before the new facility is ready. Victoria Park's current center court, with about 3,600 seats, primarily hosts ATP 250 events, while Law aims to create a multi-purpose venue capable of hosting ATP 500 tournaments, which require around 7,000 seats, and possibly ATP 1000 events if space and resources permit.

The renovation of Victoria Park is part of the city's five-year plan, which envisions the project being completed in the early stages of the next five-year period, around 2030. Law emphasized the need to avoid disrupting the swimming complex and football pitches during the expansion of the new venue.
