Tesla receives approval to roll out self-driving software in Croatia

Tesla has received approval to roll out its supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) system in Croatia, marking a significant step in its push for a European market. This decision comes on the heels of similar approvals in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Slovenia, and the proposal of a bloc-wide approval by the Dutch regulator, RDW.

However, the implementation of the FSD system is not without controversy. A safety group and several EU member states have raised concerns about the system's ability to exceed speed limits, an issue that has become a contentious aspect of Tesla's strategy for a European rollout of the FSD technology.

The technology is seen as crucial by Tesla as it aims to boost sales and regain market share, especially in the face of increasing competition from Chinese electric-vehicle makers. The expected vote on allowing the software rollout across the EU was initially delayed from October, with the next decision likely not until December.

For a true EU-wide rollout, the technology would need the support of a qualified majority, representing 65% of the bloc's population, which requires approval by a majority of 15 EU member states out of the 27.
