Terrorists defy govt curfew to attack Plateau communities -NBA alleges

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Plateau State has accused terrorists of launching attacks on communities within the state, despite the government-imposed curfews. At a press conference in Jos, the NBA's Chairman, Morgan Dung, announced the group's concerns following recent attacks that resulted in fatalities and displacement.

The NBA highlighted that the assaults occurred in Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, and Bokkos Local Government Areas, taking place during curfew hours when residents were expected to comply with government directives. The association expressed particular concern that terrorists allegedly targeted communities while residents were observing the curfew.

Community vigilantes in Kikyo village, Mangu Local Government Area, were among those killed during the curfew. The NBA also mentioned reported attacks in Cantoma and Bin-Per villages in Mangu and Kasa village in Marit District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The NBA cautioned that ongoing attacks, even with security measures in place, could erode public confidence and potentially lead to a breakdown of law and order. The association urged for enhanced security operations in the affected communities, better border surveillance, and improved coordination among security agencies.

Additionally, the NBA called for timely responses to attack responses, improved intelligence gathering, and time-bound trials for terrorism cases. They also demanded the prosecution of those responsible for the attacks on Plateau communities.
