Teacher Payment Crisis: GES to submit promotion documents for 60,000 staff

The Ghana Education Service (GES) is striving to address payment issues for teachers and avoid disruptions to the academic schedule. GES spokesperson Daniel Fenyi emphasized the importance of ensuring teachers receive their payments and avoiding blame games. GES head Daniel Fenyi pointed out that the Education Minister met with teacher unions to assure them of efforts to resolve the matter.

GES has been directed to collaborate with the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to provide necessary documentation. The 4pm deadline is associated with the delivery of input forms and other documentation, such as promotion letters. The affected number of teaching personnel ranges between 59,000 to 60,000, though over 80,000 includes both teaching and non-teaching staff.

GES is actively working with the requested documentation, although they believe an automatic placement could expedite the process. Mr Fenyi assured teachers that GES will continue to work tirelessly to address the outstanding issues, aiming to restore teachers' welfare and enable them to return to the classroom. The deadline for the required documentation, according to Fenyi, refers to the following Monday, giving GES a week to provide the necessary paperwork.

GES remains committed to preserving the academic calendar, stating that they have already stabilized the schedule.
