Supreme Court rules Trump admin can continue deporting migrants to 3rd countries

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed the Trump administration to resume its controversial policy of deporting some individuals to countries where they have no ties, pending further legal arguments. The court's decision temporarily lifted a February order from a federal district judge that required immigration authorities to provide deportees with more due process before sending them to third countries.

The high court also agreed to hear arguments on the matter in December, asking both the Justice Department and opponents of the policy to prepare for discussions on potential violations of federal law, the U.S. Constitution's Due Process Clause, or regulations. The decision allows the administration to continue sending deportees to third countries without notifying them of their destination, provided those nations promise not to persecute or torture the migrants.

This policy, implemented in March 2025, has resulted in the deportation of thousands of individuals, including those with criminal records, to various countries, some of which are known for their dangerous conditions.
