Spotify, Anthropic's Claude down for some US users, Downdetector shows

For the second time in a week, Claude, Anthropic's AI chatbot, is experiencing issues that have left users unable to access the service. The problem began shortly before 10 AM ET on September 20, 2026, with reports of failed requests and errors popping up on the Claude website, iOS, Android and desktop apps. Down Detector, a website that tracks service outages, currently shows over 2,900 reported issues as of 10:04 AM ET.

One TechRadar reporter tried to sign up for a Claude account, only to be met with endless errors and an inability to access the service. Anthropic confirmed the issue around 10:21 AM ET on the Claude Status page, stating that they are investigating "elevated error rates affecting Claude, Claude Cowork, and Claude Code." The chatbot is now listed as a partial outage on the status page.

Anthropic has not provided an estimated time for a fix, but they have shared a statement with users: "We are investigating elevated error rates affecting Claude.ai (including the desktop and mobile apps), Claude Code and Claude Cowork. Users may see failed requests, errors loading or sending conversations, or be asked to sign in again; retrying may succeed. We will provide an update as soon as possible."
