Six medals, three qualifying times: Kaydn Naidoo eyes Olympic dream

Ghana's national women's football team, the Black Queens, have been assigned to play against Mauritius in the second round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games set to be held in Los Angeles, United States. The Black Queens will be required to travel to Mauritius on Thursday, 8 October 2026, for the first leg of the match, followed by a return match in Ghana on Tuesday, 13 October.

Mauritius secured their qualification for the second round after triumphing over Djibouti 3-1 in the preliminary round, with a 2-1 home victory in the first leg and a 1-0 win in the subsequent match. Ghana, one of 29 countries to secure a bye through the preliminary round, will enter the competition at the second of five knockout stages.

The Black Queens, while one of Africa's premier women's national football teams, have yet to achieve the distinction of qualifying for the Olympic Games. This match against Mauritius offers Ghana another chance to progress through the qualifying stages and inch closer to realizing their goal of becoming the first African team to compete in the Olympic Games.
