Sindh Govt Hospital Doctors Yet to Receive Salaries for 3 Months

For the past three months, numerous doctors working at government hospitals in Sindh have gone without receiving their salaries and stipends, leading to significant financial hardships among junior medical staff. This issue arose following a shift in the payment system introduced in May 2026, where house officers are now required to have their payments deposited directly into their bank accounts rather than receiving physical cheques from their respective hospitals.

A finance officer at a government hospital disclosed that the necessary forms, including copies of identity cards, previous cheques, and other relevant data, had been collected from house officers and submitted to the Accountant General Sindh. Despite these efforts, the payments have yet to be processed and disbursed. House officers frequently approach hospital administrations to address the unpaid stipends; however, these institutions no longer play a role in the direct payment process due to the new system.

Civil Hospital Karachi, home to approximately 280 house officers, as well as Jinnah Hospital Karachi, which employs over 700 house officers along with more than 450 postgraduate trainee doctors, are particularly affected by this financial predicament. Altogether, more than 3,800 house officers are reportedly employed across government hospitals in Sindh.

Dr. Shahid Awan, the President of Jinnah Hospital’s Young Doctors Association, has taken a firm stance by demanding the immediate payment of all outstanding stipends. He has issued a stern warning that unless the overdue payments are settled promptly, doctors may resort to organized protests and even consider a boycott of outpatient departments.
