Senate urges security agencies to rescue abducted victims

Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged security agencies to prioritize the rescue of citizens held captive by armed groups throughout Nigeria. He condemned the recent abductions in Marisa, Dekera Mosque, and other locations, emphasizing that until every Nigerian is free, the chamber cannot claim freedom. Akpabio pledged the Senate's legislative, financial, and oversight powers to assist security forces in protecting citizens and their assets. He also addressed the recent floods that devastated homes and farmlands, calling for swift government action to restore livelihoods and prevent food shortages.

Turning to economic concerns, Akpabio urged lawmakers to prioritize citizens' daily challenges, such as high living costs, unemployment, and limited access to essential goods. He reaffirmed the Senate's commitment to tackling pressing issues like economic instability and insecurity. Acknowledging the ongoing hardships faced by Nigerians, Akpabio stressed the importance of aligning legislative efforts with the people's struggles, particularly in addressing rising living expenses.

He reminded the Senate of its duty to deliver tangible solutions, not just rhetoric, as the nation prepares for the upcoming elections and its 66th Independence Day on October 1.
