Senate passed a sweeping college sports NIL bill 77-22, but the House is divided

Tuesday saw the Senate reconvening, with a resounding call from its leader for urgent action to rescue kidnapped Nigerians and protect communities threatened by insecurity. Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, emphasized that the chamber would not shy away from employing legislative, budgetary, and oversight measures to tackle the pressing issues of kidnappings, flooding, and the surging cost of living.

He sternly urged the Federal Government and security agencies to ramp up their efforts to rescue those held captive and shield vulnerable communities from the clutches of danger.

Akpabio made it clear that neglecting the plight of the kidnapped is akin to being captive alongside them. He called upon government institutions to shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding citizens and not leave them to confront threats alone. The Senator underscored that the safety of citizens is a collective obligation of the state and every branch of government, particularly the Senate.
