PUWU postpones protest against private sector participation in ECG

The Public Utilities Workers’ Union (PUWU) has postponed its planned protest against private sector involvement in the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG). In a memo sent to Divisional Heads of the Senior and Junior Staff Union (SSU/JSU), PUWU informed members to organize a nationwide demonstration against private sector participation in ECG. The union aimed to present a petition to the President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, and deliver it to regional ministers in all operational regions.

However, the demonstration has been called off. This decision was made following a meeting between PUWU representatives and the Energy Ministry on Monday, September 28. Further discussions are expected to take place today, Tuesday, September 28, which may lead to a final decision on resuming the protest or cancelling it entirely.
