PM Anwar: Malaysian government to continue talks with Myanmar on refugee status

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that the Malaysian government will persist in discussions with Myanmar to address the issue of refugees. The matter, which has been unresolved for decades, has become more complicated due to the increasing number of refugees, which includes those who have returned to Myanmar. During negotiations, Malaysia ties various factors together, as it is difficult to accommodate hundreds of thousands of refugees.

Anwar invited Myanmar's President to negotiate to find a safe solution, expressing appreciation for the President's acceptance of the invitation. He emphasized the need to negotiate conditions for the safety of the refugees and reminded that no country can simply accept large numbers of refugees without negotiation. The Malaysian government's priority is to safeguard the welfare and human rights of the refugees.

Anwar also highlighted that the decision to invite the Myanmar President was significant, acknowledging that while both countries have their imperfections, the issue must be resolved through diplomacy.
