Plateau Group Denies Militia Links, Backs DSS Security Operations

The Mwaghavul Development Association (MDA) has vehemently denied claims that it is involved with a militia group or collaborates with the Department of State Services (DSS) or any other security agency to target Fulani communities in Plateau State. In a statement, the MDA characterized the allegation as false and an attempt to undermine security agencies working to quell violence in the region.

Friday Derwam, the MDA's Director of Public Affairs, praised the DSS for their professionalism in handling security operations. However, the MDA is concerned about the rise of inflammatory claims on social media, alleging that groups involved in violence are spreading false narratives against security personnel. One such narrative falsely asserts that Mwaghavul youths are working alongside the DSS and Operation Rainbow (a security initiative) to attack Fulani residents.

The MDA categorically rejected this claim, stating that no militia exists under its umbrella nor does it have any agreements with security entities. Security forces operating in Plateau, the MDA insists, have adhered to their constitutional duties and guidelines. The association claims that successful security operations have deterred attacks and the MDA urges journalists to verify information before reporting, emphasizing that media outlets should focus on peacebuilding rather than spreading misleading narratives.
