PINSTECH and OGDC Sign Analytical Services Contract for Lithium Extraction Initiative

The Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH) and Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) have entered into a contract to collaborate on a lithium extraction initiative, according to a report on Tuesday. PINSTECH, a premier research and development institute established in 1965 under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), will offer analytical support for OGDC's endeavor.

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Shakeel Abbas Rofi, Member (Science) of PAEC, and Mr. Ahmed Hayat Lak, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of OGDC. Dr. Qamar-ul-Haque, Director General of PINSTECH, and Mr. Ejaz Abbas Rizvi, General Manager of OGDC's Supply Chain Management Department, also signed the contract.

Dr. Rofi and Mr. Lak expressed optimism that the partnership would enhance cooperation between the two organizations by combining their scientific and technical skills for national goals. PINSTECH's Head of the Spectrometry Group, Munib Ahmed Shafique, provided an overview of the institute's expertise in elemental analysis, while OGDC's Shagufta Shafique, JE (Production), outlined the company's scope of work and diversification plans, which include the lithium extraction project in collaboration with PINSTECH.

The collaboration aims to leverage PINSTECH's analytical capabilities and OGDC's sectoral strengths to uncover new opportunities in Pakistan's mineral and energy sectors, ultimately supporting the development of domestic resources and advancing national objectives.
