Orsato admits Serie A refereeing errors: ‘Superficiality, wrong positioning, wrong ideas’

Daniele Orsato, the Serie A referee designator, has admitted to mistakes made in officiating during this season's Serie A matches. Speaking to the press, he rejected suggestions that his approach to refereeing represents a personal doctrine. He acknowledged that too few fouls have been awarded and that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) has been too passive.

Orsato emphasized that the objective is to align with players and teams' requests, and that the players are responding commendably. He also admitted that there have been errors due to the speed of the game, which they expected, but not the specific errors that occurred. Orsato expressed hope that these errors will not happen again in the future with greater commitment and work.

Regarding consistency in the grey areas of refereeing, he could only assure that his team would work every day to align their decisions. Orsato also reiterated that he will continue avoiding appointments involving Serie A referees from the same region as a club as he believes it avoids external problems. He firmly stated that technology will not be abandoned in Serie A, as it helps to reduce mistakes.
