OpenAI, a close ally of Microsoft, is increasingly challenging the tech giant's stronghold on workplace software. At its Dev Day developer conference in San Francisco, OpenAI unveiled a range of new features for its ChatGPT platform, aiming to attract office workers. The standout feature is Space, a shared workspace within ChatGPT where colleagues can collaborate with the chatbot and AI agents known as Dots on various work tasks.

Space functions like a modern digital drive, keeping pages and files together, but with interactive capabilities. CEO Sam Altman demonstrated how users can instruct pages to check team channels, update with relevant information, and generate charts or images. OpenAI's Pages function serves as a word processor built for both human and agent collaboration, enabling tasks such as writing, research, chart generation, and image creation.

Additionally, OpenAI has developed collaborative slides akin to PowerPoint, which can be created by conversing with ChatGPT. These slides allow multiple users and AI agents to work simultaneously, leaving comments and making edits. As OpenAI ventures into the domain once dominated by Microsoft, other software companies like Salesforce are also racing to incorporate AI features to stay competitive in the evolving software landscape.
