Ondo violence: Reps seek boundary demarcation, security to stop clashes

The House of Representatives has called for urgent action to halt escalating tensions and violence in parts of Ondo State's Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency. During a plenary session, Rep. Donald Ojogo moved for an urgent public importance motion, alleging attacks by armed youths from Itsekiri community in Warri North, Delta State.

He stated that attacks have been occurring in Odun-Ebighan, Eke, and neighboring communities for four weeks, leading to house burnings and injuries. Ojogo emphasized the need to preserve the centuries-old relationship between Ilaje and Itsekiri peoples, who share a boundary and historically coexisted peacefully. The dispute is reportedly linked to competing claims over oil and gas resources in the disputed territory.

The House Committee on Special Duties has been mandated to collaborate with the National Boundary Commission to determine the ownership and status of the disputed areas along the Ondo-Delta boundary. Security forces, including the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, are also to be deployed to restore peace and prevent further attacks.
