ODI World Cup 2027: Which teams will qualify automatically and who misses out?

The 14th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup, set to be hosted in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, is just a year away. This marks the first time the tournament will be held on African soil since 2003. A total of 10 teams will be automatically granted qualification for the 14-team event, announced on October 1 in Cape Town.

South Africa and Zimbabwe, as co-hosts, have secured their slots. Namibia, however, will not receive an automatic berth as they are not a Full-Member ICC nation. The next eight teams to secure direct qualifications will be determined by their ODI rankings as of September 30, 2026. India leads the rankings currently. Notably, two-time champions West Indies and Ireland will miss out on a direct berth.

The eight teams who will receive direct qualifications will compete in qualifiers early 2027, from which four teams will advance to the World Cup. The full list of teams eligible for the qualification process, in descending order of their ODI rankings excluding the hosts, are: Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
