NYSC mourns death of former DG, Colonel Peter Obasa

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has mourned the passing of its former Director-General, Colonel Peter Kolawole Obasa. Colonel Obasa breathed his last on Monday, September 28, 2026. Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the current NYSC Director-General, paid tribute to the late Colonel during a condolence visit to his home in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Colonel Obasa was hailed as a pioneering administrator and a key figure in the establishment of a robust administrative structure for the NYSC. He served as the third Chief Executive of the NYSC from 1979 to 1984, overseeing significant accomplishments during that period. Brigadier General Nafiu praised Colonel Obasa's invaluable contributions to the NYSC and expressed prayers for his soul to find eternal peace.

He emphasized that the entire NYSC community would honor the legacy of the late Colonel. General Nafiu specifically recognized Colonel Obasa's mentorship and assistance throughout his life. The NYSC commended the continued foundation laid by the founding fathers and pledged to strengthen the Scheme further. In a statement on behalf of the family, Mr. Victor Obasa expressed gratitude to General Nafiu for the condolence visit and paid tribute to his father's life and legacy. He appreciated the respect shown by the NYSC and their continued remembrance of the late Colonel.
