Nsawam Rejects Agbogbloshi ‘House Flies’

The Minority Chief Whip for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has demanded explanations from the government regarding waste transportation from Agbogbloshi, a suburb of Accra, to Adipa, a region within the municipality. This demand stems from residents' growing concerns over the increasing waste volume entering their community.

At a news conference in Adipa, Annoh-Dompreh questioned the choice to use the area as a dumping ground for waste originating in the national capital. He emphasized that the Minister responsible for Local Government should have consulted with chiefs, residents, and municipal officials before initiating the process. On September 24, 2026, Annoh-Dompreh had previously called for a suspension of the waste evacuation exercise until consultations were held with affected communities.

He highlighted residents' complaints about foul odors, flies, and potential water pollution. He also questioned whether the current waste evacuation method aligns with Ghana's commitments to sustainable waste management as outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the governing party's manifesto. Assembly Member Emmanuel Asamoah, representing the Yaw-Adipa Electoral Area, echoed similar concerns about the community's exposure to waste, unpleasant smells, rodents, and flies.

He also raised worries about environmental issues, such as contaminated runoff and drainage systems, and potential health risks for vulnerable groups. The residents demanded an immediate halt to the dumping, an independent environmental and health assessment, a comprehensive clean-up, the installation of security barriers and surveillance, and the presentation of a long-term waste management plan during a public forum in seven days.

They stressed they were not opposed to regulated waste management but objected to the practice of using Adipa as a convenient disposal site for waste from other areas, giving the authorities a seven-day deadline to address their demands. Annoh-Dompreh urged residents to maintain lawful actions, stating his role was to represent constituents and demand accountability through lawful means.
