NPA gets more time to prepare for Sibiya bail hearing

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has been granted additional time to prepare for the bail application hearing of suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection Shadrack Sibiya. This postponement came about as the NPA needed more time to review documents and prepare for the cross-examination of defense witness Rashaad Moosa.

Sibiya faces multiple charges, including rape, human trafficking, and the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl. During his bail application, Sibiya alleged that the charges against him were intended to remove him from the South African Police Service (SAPS). His attorney, Estelle Kilian, argued that the charges were simply a setup and that there was no coincidence of simultaneous search operations involving Kilian and Minister Senzo Mchunu.

The bail application will resume on Thursday at the Randburg Magistrate's Court north of Johannesburg.
