No ‘Bawumia candidates’ in NPP executive elections – Anthony Karbo

The upcoming national executive elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should focus on selecting competent party officers to strengthen the party for the 2028 general elections, rather than choosing candidates based on their association with party flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. NPP Organisation Committee Chairperson Anthony Karbo rejected the notion that the October 3 elections in Kumasi could result in a group of candidates aligned with Dr Bawumia.

Karbo stated that the party's flagbearer has already been selected and should not influence the contest for the national executive positions. Speaking to Citi FM ahead of the elections, Karbo emphasized that delegates would be voting for officers responsible for organizing the party and preparing for the 2028 elections, not for people close to the flagbearer.

"We are not voting for people who are close to somebody. We are voting for efficient party officers who can help deliver the project," he stressed. The NPP has already decided on its presidential candidate, and the current focus is on electing executives capable of organizing the party towards the 2028 elections. At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, 47 candidates are contesting for nine national positions, although the number of candidates has since changed due to withdrawals.
