Nhyiramma Foundation calls for greater support for widows and single mothers

In Akwapim North, a gathering of about 500 widows and single mothers took place for the first Arise & Shine 2026 event organized by the Nhyiramma Foundation. The day-long celebration aimed to provide hope, healing, and empowerment to vulnerable women in the community. Women from neighboring communities joined the event, which was themed "A Day of Hope, Healing, Empowerment & Celebration".

It was more than a social gathering, as it served as a reminder that women who had faced loss, financial struggles, and other challenges were still valued members of their communities. The program featured renowned women's advocate and broadcaster Akumaa Mama Zimbi, who urged the women to stay hopeful, resilient, and purposeful despite their hardships.

Lady Oduraa, a grief coach, provided guidance on coping with grief and loss, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging experiences while finding healthy ways to heal and rebuild lives. Other activities included discussions on women, widowhood, and empowerment, inspirational stories, musical performances, health education, dementia awareness, healthy aging, and practical empowerment opportunities.

The event also offered participants a chance to connect and share experiences with others who faced similar situations. The Nhyiramma Foundation sees the Arise & Shine 2026 as the beginning of a larger initiative to create a stronger support system for widows and single mothers. They aim to provide ongoing assistance beyond one-time interventions, connecting selected women to opportunities such as business start-up support, skills apprenticeships, and livelihood development.

The Foundation seeks partnerships from individuals and organizations passionate about supporting vulnerable women, offering various forms of assistance including livelihood opportunities, skills development, entrepreneurship support, mentorship, health referrals, and welfare assistance.
