NFSS deploys personnel after suspected rabid dogs bite 18 in Kano

The Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) has dispatched personnel to Kano State's Garko Local Government Area following attacks by suspected rabid dogs that have left 18 residents injured. Usman Abdullahi-Umar, the NFSS spokesman, reported that the State Commander, Abdullahi Al'ameen, received a distress call around 2 p.m. regarding a rabid dog that had bitten 11 people in Garko town, subsequently moving into neighboring communities.

These communities include Raba, Kadage, Gurjiya, and Dausai, where the dog inflicted additional injuries on seven more residents. Al'ameen described the situation as alarming, noting that the command also received reports of two other dogs potentially harboring rabies, emphasizing the urgent need for action to curb the situation.

The NFSS Garko Division, led by Divisional Forest Officer Auwalu Muhammad, has been deployed to the affected areas to track and contain the suspected rabid dogs. Al'ameen advised residents to remain vigilant, report sightings of stray or potentially rabid dogs to the nearest NFSS office or other security agencies, and seek immediate medical attention if bitten.

He assured the public that the NFSS would continue monitoring the situation and take necessary measures to prevent further attacks and contain the spread of the incident to other communities in the state.
