NetApp unveils AI data engine updates, expands Commvault tie

NetApp has unveiled updates to its AI Data Engine and broadened its integration with Commvault to assist enterprises in deploying agentic AI systems. The enhancements include unified metadata discovery across NetApp ONTAP, StorageGRID, and non-NetApp storage systems. This metadata capability enables organizations to identify data, evaluate security risks, and prepare information for AI applications while preserving the original data locations.

Additionally, NetApp previews features like AI-powered data analysis tools and integrations with analytics platforms such as Starburst and Onehouse.AI. An expanded Commvault integration links NetApp’s ransomware detection on primary storage with Commvault’s recovery workflows, offering threat detection, isolated environment validation, and data recovery capabilities through the Commvault console.

Asad Khan, NetApp's Senior Vice President and General Manager of AI, emphasizes that the goal is to accelerate the process of transforming data into intelligence while ensuring safety and speed. NetApp adopts a distinct approach by activating data in place, providing the required governance, resiliency, and openness for enterprises.

Pranay Ahlawat, Chief Technology and AI Officer at Commvault, highlights that the integration helps customers speed up response times, restore trusted data confidently, and reduce the time to clean and recover.
