NATO, EU allies rally to Estonia after 'sabotage' blamed on Russia

NATO and EU leaders have united to back Estonia following a devastating arson attack that Russian authorities claim never happened. Tallinn accused Moscow of carrying out the arson on an August 15th, accusing the Kremlin of attempting to undermine its resolve and support for Ukraine. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called the attack a reckless escalation by Russia, stating that it is failing in Ukraine and in stifling EU unity.

Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna confirmed that an investigation found Russia to be behind the arson, adding that the perpetrators had been apprehended. The Kremlin promptly dismissed the allegations, calling them baseless and without merit. All three Baltic nations have heightened their defense spending since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began in 2022, remaining staunch allies of Kyiv.

The European Union has also pledged its continued support for Estonia and Ukraine, dismissing Russia's attempts to deter European unity.
