Minna’s Cell of Death: Survivors recount how 37 mining suspect died in NSCDC custody

Thirty-seven individuals entered the custody of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Minna, Niger State, on September 15 and 16, 2026. However, they did not leave alive. Their deaths on September 17, 2026, have sparked a national uproar and speculation about the cause of their deaths. NSCDC has initially suggested a suspected disease outbreak, while survivors and others have questioned overcrowding, poor ventilation, and the use of unidentified substances.
