Marion County prep golf teams buckle down for post-season play

As the high school golf season nears its end, three teams from Marion County are focusing their efforts on the upcoming postseason. Fairmont Senior, East Fairmont, and North Marion are preparing for the Big 10 Championships on Monday and the Marion County Championships on Friday.

Fairmont Senior, the most successful team among the three, enters the postseason ranked ninth out of 26 teams in the WVSSAC Class AAA. Head coach Luke Corley believes the team has the potential to perform even better, as they have been shooting in the 150s for the last three matches. The boys team also has a full girls team, with four of the five athletes qualifying for the WVSSAC Girls Golf Championship.

East Fairmont's Bees have faced challenges due to rain delays, which have limited their playing opportunities. Head coach David Webb has put the team through a tough schedule to prepare them for the postseason, and they currently sit 16th in Class AAA and fifth in Region I. Webb is hopeful that his team will have a strong performance in the postseason, as their scores have been improving as the season progresses.

North Marion has struggled with injuries and inconsistent play this season. Top golfer Luke Burnside is out for the season, and head coach Chance Hearn has expressed frustration with the team's lack of progress. However, Hearn has seen glimpses of potential and believes that if his team can lock in and perform to their full potential, they could cause a surprise in the postseason.
