Maricarmen acepta el acuerdo y volverá a su casa cuando le den de alta del hospital

Maricarmen Abascal, an 87-year-old woman, has returned to her home after accepting an agreement from the property company. She will be discharged from the Gregorio Marañón hospital, where she has been since six days ago when she was evicted from her dwelling where she lived for 71 years. After a six-hour meeting between the property owners, their lawyer, and family members, along with the municipality's housing and land agency acting as a mediator, the company agreed to let her return with a new rental.

The syndicate of tenants, who had asked to be present in the negotiations, warned that the encampment at Puerta del Sol would continue: "This goes beyond". The agreement will allow Maricarmen to return to the property on Retiro Street as a tenant, bringing her home as of immediate effect for a price that does not exceed 30% of her net income.

The contract will last for eight years. Her lawyer, Beatriz Duro, stated that the rental price will be similar to what she was paying, around 500 euros for rent, expenses, and community contributions. Duro noted that this could be a historic moment if it ends Maricarmen's displacement.
