Malaysia sasar 6 daripada 10 ahli KWSP capai simpanan asas RM390,000 menjelang 2030

Malaysia aims to raise the adequacy of retirement incomes to six out of every ten KWSP members, achieving a basic savings level of RM390,000 by the age of 60 by 2030. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that currently, nearly four out of ten KWSP members are on track to achieve this target under the KWSP adequacy wage framework.

Addressing the ISWC 2026 social welfare conference, Anwar emphasized that while progress has been made, a significant number of Malaysian citizens still face the risk of insufficient savings throughout their retirement, which may extend over 20 to 25 years. The minister was accompanied by Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan, Finance Minister of the Federal Territory Hannah Yeoh, and KWSP Executive Chairman Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn.

The prime minister highlighted the challenge of covering millions of Malaysians who work outside the formal job sector, as the national social protection system is largely based on the informal sector. Anwar stressed that the system must evolve with changing work dynamics, noting that a pension plan typically spans a 30-year period for salaried workers, while a weekly household, childcare, and educational expenses require a shorter-term plan.

He warned that planning for 2048 without certainty about future conditions at the start of the month is not just a financial issue, but also a matter of financial capability. The government is allocating RM1.26 billion for the elderly, benefiting 180,000 Malaysians, expanding activity centers to ensure that aging does not necessarily mean isolation.
