A local expert on criminology suggests that peer pressure and the desire for recognition are factors that may drive teenagers to engage in dangerous activities like drag racing. Haezreena Begum Abdul Hamid from the University of Malaya (UM) emphasizes that the inclination to take risks during youth also plays a role, but tackling the issue solely through arrests and punishment is insufficient.

She proposes combining enforcement with early intervention, education, and rehabilitation to prevent teenagers from seeking recognition through dangerous activities and using public roads unsafely. According to Haezreena, while harsher penalties may not prevent such behavior from recurring, the involvement of families, schools, and the community in monitoring risky behaviors among youth is crucial.

She highlights a recent incident where a 15-year-old boy is suspected to be involved in drag racing at Iskandar Puteri, Johor, which once again raises concerns about the dangers of such activities. The president of the Muslim Youth Association of Malaysia (Abim), Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin, also shares concerns about the influence of peer pressure, the desire for recognition, and the culture of taking risks in drag racing.

He believes that open roads cannot serve as a test track, as the risks not only affect those who drag race but also other road users. Fahmi suggests that periodic enforcement operations are not enough and proposes implementing pilot projects in high-risk areas to reach vulnerable youth. He believes that the involvement of youth workers and driving mentors can help connect them with safety training, mechanical skills, and controlled environments.

Haezreena stresses that the foundation of the program should reach the most difficult-to-approach young adults, not just those who already know how to seek out such programs.
