(LEAD) (Asiad) Lee So-hee, Baek Hana win women's doubles gold in badminton

NAGOYA (Asia News) - Malaysian cyclists Izzah Izzati Asri, Anis Amira Rosidi and Nur Alyssa Farid clinched silver in the women's team sprint event at the Asian Games, breaking the national record in the process. The trio completed the race in 48.566 seconds at the Izu Velodrome in Shizuoka, narrowly missing out on gold by just 0.804 seconds.

China's Luo Xuehuang, Yuan Liying and Jiang Yulu won the gold medal with a new Asian record of 45.370 seconds, while Taiwan's Wang Sin Ting, Chen Ching Yun and Liu Shang Ying took the bronze with a time of 49.061 seconds. Malaysia's previous national record of 45.487 seconds was set in 2024.

The Malaysian team broke their own national record in the first round, clocking 48.023 seconds, surpassing their previous best of 48.086 set at last year's Asian Track Cycling Championships in Tagaytay. In the qualifying round, the Malaysian trio posted the second-fastest time of 48.187 seconds, only trailing China's time of 46.672 seconds. Japan finished third with a time of 49.843 seconds.

Although Malaysia failed to improve their national record in the final, they managed to secure silver, improving their bronze-medal finish from the previous Asian Games held in Hangzhou.
