KNUST, UNCDF, host EU Ambassador to advance EU Pact for skills development initiative agenda

The Career Services Centre at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has pledged to deliver industry-ready skills to students through partnerships with the European Union and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). During a recent visit, the European Union Ambassador, H.E Rune Skinnebach, emphasized the university's pivotal role in higher education and innovation across Ghana and West Africa.

Mr. Skinnebach praised KNUST's influence in these areas and highlighted the EU's dedication to empowering young individuals through initiatives like European Horizons and Erasmus+. The university was chosen last year to implement the European Union’s Skills Project in collaboration with UNCDF, which has already achieved notable outcomes such as the establishment of a job board on the Career Services Centre's website and the training of over 3,000 students in IT skills.

Additionally, the project has facilitated interactions with industry professionals and created programme advisory committees for five programs in the Faculty of Physical and Computational Sciences to ensure academic curricula align with industry needs. The Dean of International Programmes, Professor Edmund Ekuadzi, outlined KNUST's goal of becoming a leading science and technology institution on the African continent through strategic alliances and student-focused activities.
